This issue came up in another group.
For starters the NY Times vet their articles pretty carefully. The writer was in France following the whole tour. He seems to be pretty technically savvy too.
The problem that I have with CFRP bikes is that the majority of the frames focus on weight and appearance over needed technical refinements.
CFRP can fail catastrophically with little or no warning. Once a carbon fiber frame has been in a wreck it should be replaced. All kinds of unseen damage can be going on under the paint.
Now for the Cat 1 weight weenie who needs everything in light weight carbon...
It makes you go faster.... |
