DELTAS and other aero gitanes, as well as what bikes he used when la vie claire started. awsome nicolas great job! |
Now that I think about it, I'm not sure he ever used deltas as they appeared in 1984 and he had left the team then...Maybe he gave his input ? |
yeah i thought about the deltas after i posted that. he may not have rode them but maybe he had input on them tho like you suggested. |

I wouldn't dare take anything from BH. It is a true testament to the bravery of LeMond that he had the courage to challenge Hinault. I would not have been able to do it...he is too intimidating. |

OK. Questions.....
1. We all want to know everything he knows about the original aero proto bikes. And any input or testing he did with the deltas.
2. Were his bikes factory gitanes, or were they customs painted as gitanes? If so, who built his bikes?
3. What was that all chrome bike he rode in L-B-L in the early 80's? (I can't remember what year, but it was with Renault)
4. Did he have any favourite bikes or peice of equipment through his career?
5. Which was better: Super Record or C-Record?
6. I think he's already answered the question of the LOOK aluminium bikes, they were LOOKs.
7. What was the name of the little dog BH ran over in Paris-Roubaix?
8. What did he really say to Greg at the Alpe d'Huez finish?
9. What did he really say to Phil Anderson after that crash in the 85 Tour?
10. If he could be on his best form today, how much would he enjoy crushing Lance on his way to a 6th Tour victory for the Badger?
OK Nicolas, feel free to paraphrase, and drop the silly questions. But I really want to know about the dog! |

Now, you've given me an excuse to show off...this is my personnal collection and there they are now :
This one is now signed by both GL & BH...I'll have to add LF on this one, as well as the other yellow & the pink one.
I just have a little work to do to switch the labels that don't fit with BH's year but that shouldn't be a problem. |

I've now changed the title of this post.
Feel free to post your questions.
Depending on Mr Hinault's agenda, I'll probably proceed in 2 weeks or early next year. |

Nicolas,
I have always wanted to know what riders like Hinault used for gearing (chainring and freewheel sizes) on their bikes, so my questions
1. What was the typical gear set up on time trials?
2. Same question, only what was the gearing he used in the mountains?

I think the gearing would depend on the particular profile of the course...in other words, there is no typical.
The chrome bikes were used in 1983 in the classics.
Any questions about the design and manufacture of his Gitane rides are the key.... |

To my knowledge, it was only used by BH alone in la fleche wallonne (I think we have a post on this somewhere)...chrome forks appeared on several occasions. |

Nicolas,
My questions are;
1) What did he consider to be his toughest race and why?
2) What did he consider to be his greatest weakness as a pro?
3) What was it like to stand on the podium on the Champs- Élysées to take his first Tour de France?
4) Does he still have any of his team bikes and if so, which ones?
Love the shirts. What a collection.
Thank you
Tim |

All right, guys : I'll gather questions until sunday evening december 14th. I don't want to wait too long so that Bernard Hinault recognizes me when I call him. I'll try to get in touch with him the following tuesday & wednesday.
In the meantime, be imaginative... |

What are his fondest memories of the Renault team?
And the La Vie Claire team?
Tubulars or clinchers? We'll let the Badger settle the argument once and for all! |

Nicolas,
Here are a few more;
How many bikes did he have per season?
What cutting edge technologies, materials and techniques did he use on the bikes over the years?
We've been through various transitions of bicycle design in the last 20 years, but if the UCI restrictions were not in place, which direction would he most like to see bicycle development go?
What are his thoughts about the use of rider radio communication and the effect on the race, compared to his racing days when there were no race radios?
How will the credit crunch affect professional cycling and the Tour de France over the next five years?
What was his favourite food when racing?
What is it really like, and how does it feel, to ride up the great French, Italian and Spanish climbs at race speed? What thoughts would go through his mind? How did he overcome or try to ignore the pain?
If he could choose, would he prefer to race in his day or in today's world?
Thanks
Tim |

Hi guys, just an update...
I had to postpone this Q & A. Given the holiday season, we're probably looking at an early 2009 new date.
Sorry for the delay.
Rest assured that this Q & A will happen.
Nicolas. |
