hi,
i bought this bike this week-end(with a set of campy record hubs and nisi wheels) and i need help to find which model it is.
-3t stem and handelbar
-the sticker reynolds 531 is in a poor condition so it's difficult to see if it's only a 3 tubing or full 531
-stronlight headset
-weimann 605 brakes
-huret success (titanium?) front and rear derailleurs
-gipiemme hubs
-sugino crankset
-challenge pro saddle
-aluminium seat post
-liotard pedals and christophe toeclips
-the frame has inserts for bottle cage
I'm not sure but it seems to be a nation 1849 or a super sprint (but on the '78 catalogue there are no insert for bottle cage)
could you help me to find this model?
thank you

Bienvenue au forum,

For starters, only the 3 main tubes are Reynolds 531 - 3 TUBES RENFORCES.

Second, the rear derailleur is a Huret Challenger not a Success. The Success derailleurs were made with a partial titanium body and an aluminum alloy jockey wheel cage. The Challenger dérailleurs have steel parts instead of titanium plus a steel cage. These rear derailleurs shift very well.

Huret used pretty much the same front derailleurs and levers for both models of rear derailleurs but those changed from time to time.

Third, the Sugino cranks have the crank arm swaged onto the chainring "spider". On better quality cranks the spider or chainring web is forged as a single unit.

Fourth read the caveat at the bottom of the spec sheet about specifications subject to change.

Should be a nice riding bike.

Chas.

thank you chas for all these details!
unfortunately it isn't a full reynolds tubing!!but that's not very important (the price was very low) the most important that's a very nice riding bike (as you have written).
i've never used huret rear derailleur (except the "svelto" of my interclub) and well, from my point of view, it works as well as a good campagnolo but accept 28 freewheel.
i don't appreciate the weimann brakes and may be, i will replace them by shimano dura ace (first generation black from my stock)...

Nice looking bike. It looks to be in super condition. Enjoy the component changes.

Thanks for the post.

Tim
