I'm quite shure that it's from 1974.
First I thought it's a "montlhery GS/4 n. 6543" (catalogue site 6), but my bike has 10 gears not 8.
I bought my bike in Austria (Europe) if this does matter to you

i hope you can help me
greets from Austria

Welcome to the forum.

The bike looks like a variation of the Hosteller model that was built as an entry level touring bike for the US market.

Gitane built a number of different bikes like this for the European market where cycle touring was more popular.

The Hosteller models where only listed in the 1970 US Gitane catalog. Not many were ever imported because cycle touring didn't become popular in the US until about 1975-76. Gitane missed the boom in "touring" bikes in the US market during the mid to late 70s.

What makes these bikes different are the brazed on mounts on the forks for the front rack and the generator mount on the left seat stay. They came standard with stainless steel fenders.

Hope this helps.

Chas.

Thank's a lot for the quick answer.

I guess your information will help me to track the modell down in Europe.

I let you know if there is any progress.
