55.5cm Kilo was restored to original Gitane black with purple/brown undertones, but paint didn't cure properly and flaked easily. i had it powder coated another color (Gitane road color) which i find very striking, but now wish i had stuck to original black. i do love this bike though. Very responsive, and super light. i recently slapped a brooks pro saddle on and the breaking in process isn't as bad as i thought it would be, considering i've only been able to use split saddles in the past. i feel like a little kid with a toy that i can't stop playing with. Go Gitane! Eventually i'd like to get a road bike (possibly Gitane Criterium), but there are too many affordable great options to choose from. Chris

Nice to hear your work on this bike. What yr. is it? Mine, circa "74", still original paint-white- but does have some spotting issues. Have to keep it waxed.

I think most of the Kilos are dated back to 84'. Not sure if they made them after that, but it's a treasure when they pop up. Do you have pics of your bike? I'm think about also posting pics of a 76' track frame i restored and sold to a guy in Canada ...was a beauty, but a lil too bike for me. |
