So the stopper plate on my C-Record rear derailleur was broken and I bought a replacement, thinking it would be easy to change. To my surprise, the thing appears stuck and won't budge, but I can't figure out what is holding it in, or how to remove it. Here is a picture of the part I am talking about:

I need to get this thing out. if anyone has an idea of how to do it, let me know.

Stephan,

This person looks to have had the same problem and fixed it.

That's as close as I've been able to get.

Is the solution really a hammer, Chas, or is that sarcasm? At this point, it is the only thing that makes sense, but I am loathe to try it if it isn't the right way!

Stephan,
I had a like problem with a different Derailleur. The top Pivot bolt should have just dropped out. I ended up using the tapered end of a Nail Set (through the center of bolt) and hammer to get it out. Turns out the tip of the spring had come through the body and was keeping it from just sliding out as it should have.

Humor not sarcasm...

I've battled with RD springs before, I feel your pain.

I haven't worked on a Campy RD past a Nuovo Record so I can't offer any help.

Chas.

I used a hammer...tapped it a few times, and the bolt came out. Cleaned and regreased the spring, then loaded the new stopper plate in and it is good as new. Hooray!

The one on the left is a 20 Lb. sledge. The one on the right is a 10 Lb model for more precise work! Wink

"The sledgehammer can apply more impulse than other hammers, due to its large size. Along with the mallet, it shares the ability to distribute force over a wide area. This is in contrast to other types of hammer, which concentrate force in a relatively small area."

We just had a new kitchen installed in our house. I had planned to remove the old kitchen cupboards on the Sunday prior to installation of the new one as I was busy on the Saturday. I got a text (SMS) from my GF on the Saturday afternoon. She had "removed" the entire kitchen herself with one screw driver, one hacksaw, and a 10lb sledge!!! Took her 3 hours. Not bad,eh?

She's a keeper. Interesting that my brother in law couldn't remove a bathroom vanity, and your significant other demolished a kitchen....
