There's a really nice looking 60cm TdF on eBay. It looks all original except for the rims, tires and SunTour derailleurs. Seller is calling it a "Service Corse" from those words on the top tube decal.
There have been several red early 70s TdFs on eBay over the past year. I don't recall ever seeing a red one back in the day.

I'm guessing that it's around a 1971 or 1972 model because:
It has the older long point Prugnat S7 "Italian style" lugs vs. the medium length Bocama lugs.
Brazed-on rear brake cable stop.
Stronglight 93 cranks vs. Sugino Mighty Competition
IMHO, it's a very nice bike but Buy It Now price is a bit "spendy" for the current market. At that price, it's "fixie bait".
"A fool and his money are soon parted." Thomas Tusser, 1500s
No connection to the seller, just a public service note.

That is a nice bike and good detail shots. Owner applied red highlights
to the engraved MAFAC Competition, Campagnolo HF Hubs, stem, Stronglight and even the Simplex cable router? Nice. Too bad Pierre missed on the second pass with the spray gun around the head tube and forks! |
