Welcome to the forum, and congrats on the find. That is a 1985/1986 Gitane "Victoire",which is what it probably reads on the seat tube decal, right? I couldn't really make it out in the picture.

In 1986, it was available in white as well, but your bike still has the 1985 down-tube decal. It wasn't rare for Gitane to mix and match stuff, so getting it within two years isn't bad!

It would have the three main tubes made of Vitus 999 cromoly tubing. It was an entry level racing bike for the time...definitely a good find and should make for a nice riding bicycle. |

Simon....,
Where do you live? I wanna dumpster dive there too!
I can't make out the Mavic decal from the photo. What does it read? Looks like after a cleaning, you will have a nice bike for the cost of elbow grease and air in the tires.

Yes...unfair, isn't it? The best thing I have ever found is a Peugeot...and not even a PX-10 (it was a UO 8 or something). |

My best find so far was the Younger-Bigger Brother '72 Interclub to my original '71 Interclub. It was a stroke of Good Karma, that a friend had set it out at curbside for "Give Away"
I like the ride of my early '70's frames, BUT, I have to say that I REALLY like the ride of my '87 Victoire. This will be a great enjoyable ride, looks to be in great shape and paint -decal finish should clean up nicely.
Congratulations on your find !!! If the frame size is correct you'll love this road frame.
I Like Steel !!!!!
