Last year (or so) Wayne Bingham bought out Mel Pinto Imports the former Gitane importer/distributor during the 60s and early 70s.

Wayne reopened as Velo Classique Bicycle Emporium.

He has a nice link showing some Gitane items he's unearthed in the old inventory. Included is a post card with Bernard in a World Champion jersey and 3 National Champions.

There's also some pictures of a NOS Gitane TdF fork with the original TdF decal with 102 at the bottom.

The 102 was the model number for the Tour de France bikes until 1968 when it was changed to Model 585. From 1968 until the decals changed in 1974, the 102 number was cut off of the TdF fork decals.

This fork is probably from around 1972-74 because it has the later model Nervex DuBois fork crown. Confused

Chas. and all,

Wayne has a good quantity of ORIGINAL Gitane forks in stock For Sale. He has various original colors, some Reynolds 531 some not. Most are for smaller size frames (58cm [maybe] or smaller). I tried to get a replacement from him for my 60cm Interclub and had to settle for a non original, but NOS, all chrome Cortina from MPI's old stock.

If someone has a painted and bad chrome fork they want to replace, contact him. If it's not the right color it could be repainted and save you the cost of a full repaint.

Jay

Please note: Wayne still operates as MPI for wholesale distribution to dealers of modern parts and accessories. Velo Classique is set up for the vintage items he acquired from his purchase of MPI. He has small replacement parts for older Simplex, Mafac and Stronglight in limited quantity among others.

Thanks Chas and Jay for the update,

It's exciting to see that these finds are still out there.

Thanks for the link.

Tim
