Saur's Rony Martias sits in 3rd on the GC due to bonus time picked up in the intermediate sprints. He also sits at 8th with 8 points in the points competition, and 3rd in the mountains competition with one point. Pretty productive day for him!

Stéphane Poulhies is in a three man breakaway today. Took 2nd in the first sprint and 2nd in the second mtns. classification primes. Wouldn't it be nice if they could stay away? Right now they have 6'40" on the peleton at the 64km mark with approx 130km to go.

The break got caught about 20k from the line. Poulhies got a bunch of sprint and mountain points, and was awarded the 'most combative' rider of the day. Unfortunately, Saur didn't win the stage. That honor went to Italian Danilo Napolitano of Team Katusha. Poulhies was spit out the back of the peleton, but is sits 3rd in the mountains classification with 6 pts.

The question is: Where is Jimmy Casper? These finishes seem made for him, but he has yet to make any serious challenge.

Stage 2 Results:
1 Danilo Napolitano (Ita) Team Katusha 4:47:14
12 Cyril Lemoine (Fra) Saur - Sojasun
18 Jimmy Casper (Fra) Saur - Sojasun
33 Jeróme Coppel (Fra) Saur - Sojasun
36 Jimmy Engoulvent (Fra) Saur - Sojasun
37 Rony Martias (Fra) Saur - Sojasun
65 Jérémy Galland (Fra) Saur - Sojasun
124 Laurent Mangel (Fra) Saur - Sojasun
148 Stéphane Poulhies (Fra) Saur - Sojasun 0:01:22

General Classification:
1 Danilo Napolitano (Ita) Team Katusha 8:18:27
6 Rony Martias (Fra) Saur - Sojasun 0:00:04
19 Cyril Lemoine (Fra) Saur - Sojasun 0:00:10
28 Jimmy Casper (Fra) Saur - Sojasun
30 Jimmy Engoulvent (Fra) Saur - Sojasun
59 Jérémy Galland (Fra) Saur - Sojasun
69 Jeróme Coppel (Fra) Saur - Sojasun
114 Laurent Mangel (Fra) Saur - Sojasun
148 Stéphane Poulhies (Fra) Saur - Sojasun 0:01:26

Saur has had a man in the break on every stage during this race, and today was no exception. This time, the break almost stuck, with Saur's Jimmy Engoulvent getting in a 7-man break, then heading out on his own at the end of the race. With 18k to go, he went alone and stayed there until inside of 4k...when 4 others bridged up to him. They didn't work well together, and so the peleton was able to catch them at 2k. Only 2k more and we would have had a chance at a stage win.

The breakaway of the day with Jimmy Engoulvent. *Note the fan in Saur gear standing on the side of the road!

Another sprint finish to end the stage...and Jimmy Casper was again nowhere to be found. I really haven't a clue as to what is going on with him and why he is not contesting these sprints. Meanwhile, Rasmussen won another stage.

Stage 3 Results:
1 Alex Rasmussen (Den) Team Saxo Bank 4:22:46
22 Rony Martias (Fra) Saur - Sojasun
23 Cyril Lemoine (Fra) Saur - Sojasun
59 Jimmy Engoulvent (Fra) Saur - Sojasun
65 Stéphane Poulhies (Fra) Saur - Sojasun
84 Jimmy Casper (Fra) Saur - Sojasun
85 Jeróme Coppel (Fra) Saur - Sojasun
108 Laurent Mangel (Fra) Saur - Sojasun
DNF Jérémy Galland (Fra) Saur - Sojasun

General Classification:
1 Alex Rasmussen (Den) Team Saxo Bank 12:41:03
7 Rony Martias (Fra) Saur - Sojasun 0:00:14
12 Jimmy Engoulvent (Fra) Saur - Sojasun 0:00:16
18 Jimmy Casper (Fra) Saur - Sojasun 0:00:19
24 Cyril Lemoine (Fra) Saur - Sojasun 0:00:20
66 Jeróme Coppel (Fra) Saur - Sojasun
99 Laurent Mangel (Fra) Saur - Sojasun
109 Stéphane Poulhies (Fra) Saur - Sojasun 0:01:36

No Saur men in today's break, which proved to be decisive. Major time gaps, and Saur was not on the better end of any of them. Tough stage with saw the abandon of Coppel and Martias, along with more than 20 other riders.

Our team needs a win badly.

23 Cyril Lemoine (Fra) Saur - Sojasun 0:04:09

71 Jimmy Casper (Fra) Saur - Sojasun 0:15:57
89 Jimmy Engoulvent (Fra) Saur - Sojasun
91 Stéphane Poulhies (Fra) Saur - Sojasun
DNF Jeróme Coppel (Fra) Saur - Sojasun
DNF Rony Martias (Fra) Saur - Sojasun

General Classification:

Sad I was checking out the 3rd velo in the Poulhies break (Stage 2). It looks (noting the lettering on the top tube) like it could be an EXS. EXS was a high end velo associated with Gitane a few years back. Of course, I could be way off course, gone off the deep end.
Bienvenue,
Peter H.

Benoit Vaugrenard (Française Des Jeux) claimed victory in the final stage of the 4 Days of Dunkirk on Sunday. Martin Elmiger (Ag2R-La Mondiale) held on to win the overall title. (from cyclingnews.com)

Jimmy Engoulvent made the 14 man break that proved to be the move of the day. He broke away again with 5K to go to try and do it on his own, but it didn't work out for him, with counter attacks coming. The winner was from the group of 14. It is noted that apparently Jimmy was riding on a Gitane-badged Bianchi. the other riders were riding their Gitanes...I don't know why he rode on that bike....

So finally the break worked, and our guys were in it, but still were not able to capitalize. That's racing, I guess. Not such a good tour for us, but our guys really gave it their all and certainly energized the race. Jimmy Casper was nowhere to be found (truly a 'ghost'). He didn't even win the field sprint today. I wonder if he is ill, or trying to peak for something else....

As an aside, anyone noticed how many Swiss riders are dominating this year? What are they feeding them up there? Rolling Eyes

Stage 5 Results:
1 Benoit Vaugrenard (Fra) Française Des Jeux 4:11:51
4 Jimmy Engoulvent (Fra) Saur - Sojasun 0:00:04
14 Jimmy Casper (Fra) Saur - Sojasun 0:00:07
82 Stéphane Poulhies (Fra) Saur - Sojasun 0:00:12
91 Laurent Mangel (Fra) Saur - Sojasun 0:00:25
94 Cyril Lemoine (Fra) Saur - Sojasun

Final General Classification:
1 Martin Elmiger (Swi) AG2R La Mondiale 21:36:03
22 Cyril Lemoine (Fra) Saur - Sojasun 0:04:32
44 Laurent Mangel (Fra) Saur - Sojasun 0:09:43
52 Jimmy Engoulvent (Fra) Saur - Sojasun 0:15:55
57 Jimmy Casper (Fra) Saur - Sojasun 0:16:01
91 Stéphane Poulhies (Fra) Saur - Sojasun 0:17:23
