hi
my 83 team pro replica re build is finally underway.
i feel i must use benotto bar tape to finish it off in yellow of course.
anyone give me any tips on fitting it ive never used benotto before
tried a google search but came back with all sorts of different opinions
start from top start from bottom and whats all this heating up the tape or plugs about?
must admit wrapping bar tape is not my favourite job anyway
any suggestions appreciated

I have never needed any sort of heat. You DEFINITELY start fromt the BOTTOM! Never start any tape from the top, or it will "roll" during use.
Anyhow, start from inside the end of the bar with a bit of tape to hold it in place. You can get "fancy" and wrap the end plug too, but this being your first time, I would recommend waiting for that.
The first step, though, is to go to your local store and buy some elmers rubber cement, and put a light coating of it on the bars just prior to wrapping them. This will help keep the tape in place. After you have started it, wrap to the outside and just make sure to use plenty of pressure to get a good tight wrap. Otherwise, it is just like wrapping any bar with any standard tape. But again..the Rubber Cement is the "trick" to keeping it in place over the long run.
Finish it at the top with electricians tape (black, of course). |
