I answered an ad today on Craigslist for a bunch of parts from the 1970's. Turns out the guy's dad had owned a bike shop in Utah for a few years. My 60's Gitane centerpulls have seen better days. Well, I pull up to this guys place and he's got centerpulls galore (Dia-Compe and Weinmann). I ended up paying him $50 for the entire stash - some good, some bad.

It included some Super Champion Competition tubular rims, NOS Dura Ace center pulls (which I understand weren't really part of the Dura Ace line), some Suntour stuff, bottom bracket spindles, Sakae randonneur handlebars, another unknown handlebar, several SR stems, hub axles (non-quick release) and a bunch of clamp on guides.

I guess I can outfit the old Gitane with some nice "new" brakes now. I'll be spending time this weekend inventorying all this stuff.

Great buy Scott.

They're excellent rims.

I spread everthing out on the workbench in the shop - a LOT of stuff. Much I won't use and will probably sell or trade. The tubular rims I'll definitely use.

Scott,

You have a great collection of bits and bobs there. Nice randonneur bars. That's a super low ratio 5 speed block and is a reasonably hard to come by item nowadays, it would be just right coupled up to wide double chain rings (48/34 ish).

Well done on the find.

Tim

Looks like you hit on a great find, you'll never have to buy brakes again!

If you happen to have some Swiss threaded BB cups in there that you don't need I could help take them off of your hands...
