Yes, some parts are prized... BUT, please, someone explain this one to me.

It's probably the condition that pushed the price up although anything 1960s Stronglight and earlier fetch reasonable sums now, but this is certainly a high one.

There tends to be no rhyme nor reason why some components fetch high prices. Even though uncommon, I remember a first generation Campagnolo Gran Sport rear changer in pristine condition that went for over $6,000 about four years ago.

It's actually a Stronglight 63 (intro 1963) and I will bet it went to Japan. They do not turn up that often which is reflected in the final bid.
