It's probably the condition that pushed the price up although anything 1960s Stronglight and earlier fetch reasonable sums now, but this is certainly a high one.
There tends to be no rhyme nor reason why some components fetch high prices. Even though uncommon, I remember a first generation Campagnolo Gran Sport rear changer in pristine condition that went for over $6,000 about four years ago.
