Hello all,

I think I am infected, ever since the tandem project is pretty much finished I am browsing the www for more and more and more.... gitane

I have found this one very close to my house.
As it looks I can get it for a real bargain, would be real funniy to get this one also for 35$, LOL
That would make three in a row for 35, lol

Anyways, can someone ID this one?
If I start another project I want it to be a high end Gitane
I've recieved these pics..

Hope you can help.
Many thanks in advance!

I think it is a 78, browsing the catalogues and looking at the decals....
But can't find anything on the tubing

The tubing is the precursor to Vitus. it's a high-end bike, but not top of the line. Most of the top Gitane models of the era came with chromed chainstays....so that is what to look for first and foremost if you are looking for a high-end Gitane. Start there...then move forward!

It's a late 70s Interclub model. The Interclub was Gitane's amateur racing model bike.

There's currently a bare frame on eBay I've been looking at with greedy eyes... Twisted Evil

Durifort was a type of tubing with a long history that went back to the 1930s. Strength wise it was between standard carbon steel and the alloy steels like Reynolds and Columbus. The French (and others) thought highly of it and used Durifort forks and stays with Reynolds 531 main tubes on many top of the line bikes.

The tubing wall thicknesses were about the same as those of Columbus SP and the heavier gage Reynolds 531 that was used on most production bikes throughout the 70s.

I probably put more miles on my 1975 Bertin C34 than any other bike I've owned. It was very similar to this bike. Unfortunately I sold it to a former fiancée's friend before I moved to NorCal in 1980! Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

For 55 Gulders ($35 bucks) I'd grab it in a heart beat! Laughing

Thank you very much Gitane guru's!

LOL Chas, we are pretty much finished here with the guilders, but that is about the exchange rate as it was.
It's all Euro now, probably going to pick it up tonight.
Will let you guys know when I got it.

Thanks again!

I picked up the Interclub for $30, and it looks really nice.
I was amazed how light it was.
Yesterday I had a small trip in my town, but the streets, even tho they look great, they ride like hell.
Anyways, once I cleaned it I will start making pics.

And I have to admit something, I also bought another Gitane.
My colleague picked it up yesterday and will drop it of tomorrow.
I have no idea what model it is, it was a blurry pic but it was only a few €, so I took the chance.

I will try to post some pics of the both of them this weekend!!

Still haven't made any pics of my latest purchase.
Will try to do that this weekend.. no promise lol

Anyway, this night I made a funny discovery.
I cliped of the light in the garage and as I walked out I had a last glimp in the dark garage and couldn't believe my eyes,
The handlebar tape is a glow in the dark one, lol how funny is that.
It looks really weird if you are not expecting that.
