The cottered bb spindle on my late 60's Gitane is really pitted. I received a replacement from a member on Bike Forums where everything matches up except the drive side is about 1-2 mm shorter than the original.
However, the replacement 9.0 mm cotter pins seem not quite wide enough. I'm assuming (and this is the naive part since it's my first attempt at working with cottered spindles) that the cotter pin measurements are the width of the pin? I've just got a sneaky suspicion this spindle may not work.
If needed I can take a photo of the two together for comparison. |
