Hello peeps!
As promised (way) earlier... here the pics of my new find.
It is in pretty good condition, but need some work.
I noticed I have learned some things here, it has honeycomb dropouts, Mafec racer brakes, 3T stem, some Simplex and Reynolds tubing (i think 3 tubes)
But still have no clue on date and model...
Here the pics :
I now see that photographing a bike with two more in the background doesnt make it easier to look at..
Anyway, obviously the bike has been altered somewhere down the line.
Any help on ID would be appreciated
Thank you!! |

It's probably a 1976 Interclub. It has Sugino Maxi cranks and Normandy hubs.
I've seen a few 1976 Interclubs with the same 3 main tubes Reynolds 531 frames as the Tour de France models from that era.
The derailleurs were originally Simplex Prestige. The front one was replaced with a Shimano and the rear with a later model Simplex. The 3TTT bars, Cinelli stem and CLB brake levers and Shimano headsets are also replacements.
Looks to be in pretty good condition. |

Was the Interclub the only model with the honeycomb dropouts? Those are so cool to look at.
Looks like the paint is in decent condition for the age - have fun restoring the bike. |

Gitane used those Huret honey comb dropouts on all of the mid range and above bikes from 1974 until late 1976. I've seen a few late 1973 and early 1977 bikes with them too.
They were considered hideous at the time even by non-bikies!
Time has been generous towards those dropouts! |

Addendum. after looking over the pictures of your bike again:
1. The stem is too high, for safety reasons, it should be inserted at least 75mm into the steering tube (same thing for the seatpost).
When the stem is too high, the expander at the bottom of the quill can cause the threads on the steering tube to crack or break off. Riding the street holding the unattached handle bars can be exciting! |

Thanks Verktyg for the very good explenation!
LOl, yeah I figured they were both a bit to high.
Look at the seatpost, any can see that this has potential....
Thanks again! |

Addendum 2 (I was having problems posting the whole message)
2. The plastic body on the right brake lever appears to be broken. Those CLB Sulky levers were some of the lightest made but they were not very robust. The plastic body portions of the levers date from the mid to late 70s. The 30-35 year old plastic deteriorates over time.
We sold levers to folks with smaller hands because they had a very short reach.
3. It looks like you need to add a link to the chain. It probably has one of the older 3/32" wide chains.
Most modern chains are narrower and made to work with 6-7-8 speed freewheels or cassettes. So you need to find a spare link the same width as your chain or replace it.
4. #000 steel wool will clean up a lot of the rust on the fork.
Have fun. |
