Too tall for me - but someone on this list who lives in France should pick this up.

Note: title should be edited to 100 euros not dollars

The only reason I questioned it was because of the apparent number tag on the top tube. But, then, I don't know if other Gitane models had that.

Reminds me of the bike my girl friend bought me in late '84 from the Gitane shop on my street in St Germain en Laye. Perhaps a Gitane "Professional"
like in 85 catalogue but older stickers?

Here's my guess: It's a 1980 or 81 Team Pro or similar model that someone put 1984 decals on.

Here's a 1979 Team Pro:

It uses the same seatstay treatment as the bike in question plus it has brazed-on brake cable guides on the top tube and the same long point lugs. In 1983 Gitane switched to fast back seat stays and routed the rear brake cable through the top tube. They also went to short point lugs.

This may be the same style fork crown too. In 83 they changed to a full sloping fork crown.

This picture shows a 1980 Olympic. It has the same seatstays, top tube braze-ons and chrome plated fork.

If it is a 1980 or 81 model, it could be a real team bike as I'm not aware that Gitane made Team Replicas for sale to the public that early???

u might have nailed it chas with the olympic , i looked again at the op's pic and it has a partial chromed chain stay , team pros had the stay chrome all the way up the stay past the drop and part the way up the seat stay.now look at the olympic it has that same partial chain stay chromed just like the op's pic does.

Lofter, I'm thinking that maybe it's a real team bike because of the number tab? Confused

I've never seen a number tab on any production model (available to consumers) prior to the 1984 Team Pro. The 1985-86 Professional had them as well as later Team Pros and Replicas.

The lugs, seatstay caps, brazed-on brake cable guides plus the chrome fork and that style fork crown place it in the 1980-81 time frame.

Sharp eyes! I must need new glasses, I missed the chrome chainstay. Shocked

One other consideration, this may have been a European only model with different features??? Confused

This bike is still available and the owner raced it when younger. It is full Reynolds and straight.

Is it worth going to pick it up? About 2 hours drive from here.
