Hello vintage Gitane fans.

I am new to your forum but not new to vintage cycling by any means. I usually spend my time over at the bikeforums.net site and thought I’d drop by to gauge any interest in a gently used, 1984 Gitane Grantour.

The frame measures out at 57cm (C-T) with “Special” double butted, Vitus 181 tubing. The frame has also been treated with Framesaver.
Nearly all parts are period appropriate and French (exceptions bar end shifters and brake levers) and for the most part, original and/or NOS, including the interesting Sachs Huret rear derailleur and Huret front. The previous owner purchased the rear derailleur as NOS just a few months back, so it’s in great shape. The BB has been swapped out for a sealed BB.

Also included are new Suntour bar-end friction shifters (original equipment was Simplex Bar end shifters), a NOS Atax stem along with new bypass/cross brake levers and cables.
Originally, the bike came with Super Champion Model 58, 27"'s but those were replaced with Mavic Module E, 700c wheels (which fit great), some nice, new Continental Ultra Gatorskins and a new set of tasteful, black SKS fenders.
The canti brakes are the original, and highly desirable, vintage Mafac’s.

That's the Sachs-Huret version of the Huret Duopar, steel instead of titanium pieces.

These are still some of the best wide range derailleurs made. Great for touring when you suddenly have to go for the granny gear. They will shift from the smallest to the largest rear cog in one quick easy move.

I have an earlier version on my touring bike. We brought in some Duopars from France about 1976. Mixed in with them were several of these steel bodied Duopars that I've never seen listed anywhere. I like them better than the titanium ones because the cage is more rigid.

The front derailleurs shifts triples very well too.

Looking for a good home.

We've got a basically unused 1984 Gran Tour that is about 21" (I'll have to measure it to be sure of the cm).

I love to ride and I wore out my 1984 Criterium riding in the hills and mountains of Idaho, my wife, not so much! The Gran Tour has less than 200 miles on it and is in great shape, as it has been stored in our garages over the years. Just a few areas of surface rust where condensation had collected with the temperature changes.

I put new tires on it last year in case she got interested in riding.

We live outside of Madison, WI these days and she has agreed to sell it - finally!
