I love my Gitane bikes and can never get enough of riding them. I posted photos this past winter/early spring of the late 60's Gitane I had built back up from a nasty frameset to a decent looking bike - even with all the personality (i.e. chips/scratches).

The frame was a 60 cm and too large for me. The bike has been sitting here in my office unused for several months. So, yesterday, as much as I debated whether to or not, I gave the bike to a friend's high school son with knee problems (grew way too fast) so that he had a bike to ride. My friend has been serving in Iraq since last July so it's been a tough year for the family.

I made sure I impressed on them the importance of the bike (not value, but that there are not many in our town still rolling on the road from the late 60's) and to please take care of it. I know they will - it's a great family.

I will say the reaction of the boy and his brothers was priceless. He was giddy and anxious to get on the bike and ride. His mom kept saying she'd pay me for it and I told her I had very little money into the bike (maybe $30) and I just wanted them to enjoy it and ride it. So, overall it was a good night.
