Ok, I found a trace of the original color. Under the right side bottom bracket. Not really enough to get a color off of. But it is tempting to try to get a good photo and use that.
The bottom bracket looks ok. The spindle looked stressed. And one bearing has lost its plating. I would be tempted to just replace the one bearing. The basket is really nice. Bearing surfaces are surprisingly devoid of pits and concentric rings. Happy, since I am not having any luck finding replacement spindle. |

i used to go this route when servicing BB's, but am now to the point where I just replace the entire thing with phil wood sealed BB + french threaded and sell the bearing BB set online. |
