I've mentioned in other posts that back in the early 70s the first thing that many TdF owners did was to replace the cheap plastic Freccia D'Oro (Golden Arrow) saddle with a Brooks Pro or B17 leather saddle.
The next change was to switch the Simplex Criterium rear derailleur to a Suntour V (about $6-$7) or a Campagnolo Nuovo Record (about $29-$39).
Many owners never bothered to change the front derailleur. I guess many didn't change their front gears much.
This ~1972 TdF on eBay is a perfect example of those changes done by the original owner.

The other addition was Suntour Bar End Shifters which were popular at the time.
The seller has the original sewup wheels that are included in the auction.
Aside from those changes and the blue plastic bar tape, it looks mostly original and period correct.
No relation to the seller, just showing a perfect example of what I've mentioned before. |
