I recently had a bike stolen from me, locked up in a Seattle neighborhood.
It was a purple/yellow Gitane; I believe it was a Victoire. Worst part: it was my sister's.
I'm trying to estimate the value of the bike so I can repay her and I was wondering if anyone on this forum had any insight.
It looks like the following pic, only she had switched out the pedals for combo clipless/flat ones, had newish chains, had black tape on the handlebars, and black tires. Recently tuned up.
Help? Thanks!!

Hi Schmanny
That is definitely a 1985 Victoire in the photo. I have two in my collection. Fortunately for you, they are collectable only for the sake of sentimentality and have very little real monetary value. (Still, I'm sorry to hear it got nicked) This bike retailed in Australia for about $550, so that would have been something like $450USD at that time. I bought a used one a few years ago for $40. So, unless your sister was particularly attached to this bike, you will be doing her a favour if you get her a new basic bike. The bike itself was the lowest level chrome-moly frame (one step above plain steel. The parts were entry level racing components. So, if you ball-parked it as being about two steps above a basic Schwinn 10 speed, you wouldn't be far off the money.

So what range is that?
THanks for all your help! |

26 year old schwinn 10 speed = worth nothing more that $5.
26 year old gitane victoire = worth maybe a little more than that. As I said, I paid $40 for one and I only bought it for old times sake as I owned one when I was a kid. |
