My name is Gilles, i work in a well known bicycle store and i'm a fan of former bikes (and new) for some time already. I possessed certain number of bicycles of various french brands (Peugeot, Motobécane). At present, I am the happy owner of a Salmon Sport completely redone in speed single and one other frame. About this frame, The previous owner said to me that this was a Gitane but unfortunately, he has done a very bad paint and there are no track of some mark. i put some photos in order to help me identify this frame:

Greetings and welcome to the Forum.

This is not a Gitane frame for at least 3 reasons.

The first is that Gitane never stamped serial numbers in the bottom bracket like on your frame. When they did stamp them in the BB they used smaller numbers placed in different areas.

Second, I've never seen a welded seam BB shell on a Gitane.

Third, I've never seen a square rear brake bridge like yours.

The hole in the bottom of the BB is for mounting a plastic Vitus cable guide.

It may be some kind of Dutch made frame???

Hope that this helps a little.

OK thank you for your precious help, you enlightened well me on some points but I have already made some discovery researches and I said to myself that this down-market frame would have been able to get closer of a Gitane Super Challenge. Quoted of it, I found the photo of a Gitane and I find that the resemblance is really striking with my frame. What do you think of that? (thanks a lot again!!):
