Hi - I wanted to see what the experts think about the blue Super Corsa listed on EBay currently. It's my size, but it seems like it has been "ridden hard, and put away wet". Any thoughts on this bike and it's price? Sorry, I'm not sure how to link the EBay auction to my post. Thanks, John |

Is this the one your talking about?

Looks like a 1968 or 69 Super Corsa, maybe 1970?
It's not a concours example but for a 40+ year old bike it doesn't look too bad. If the chrome is reasonable then it should be OK. It should make a nice rider.
One thing, on bikes from that era many of the scratches in the paint were the result of poor packing. Wheels could roll around in the box and so on.
I've seen dings in the chain stays like the one on this bike. They appeared to have come that way from the factory. It might have been caused by the way the frame was clamped while being brazed.
I paid $600 for a similar bike last year. Here's some pictures showing how it looked when I got it.

BTW, it's a 54cm frame. Back then Gitane and most other makers measured the seat tubes from the center of the BB to the top of the seat tube. |
