Could someone please help me. I have posted pictures of a Gitane Tour De France Service Course. I don't no anything about the bike except for the little research I've done online. Can anybody tell me about it? Is it worth anything?

It looks to me to be almost totally original, the brake levers are not, the seat and stem/bars may not be either. The wheels are correct, as are the Simplex Criterium derailleur, and the Stronglight crank.

You have a very nice bike there!

Nice bike! Cool

Looks to be an almost all original 1972 Tour de France. Wink

The Altenberger brake levers were made in Germany and have the retrofitted "safety" SUICIDE brake lever extensions.

The GB stem is from the UK and not original either (maybe the bars too).

The seat looks cushy but after about 5-10 miles it will start to cause PAIN because your soft parts will sink into the mattress. Crying or Very sad

Do a search on verktyg and Tour de France to get more info on why I dated it a 1972 model.

Very nice bike.

$300-$600 in the US.

The sewup (tubular) tires limit the desirability of this bike to cycling enthusiasts. That's why the low figure of $300.

In the shape it's in. if it had clinchers it could easily bring as much as $600.

A few years ago during the height of the fixie fad, there were fools that would pay as much as $500 for the frame alone! Confused

I'm jealous . This is my dream color, I think it gives a very classy touch compared to the classic gitane blue. Unfortunately I can't seem to find any affordable frame of my size ( 54 cm ) in green here in France. Mainly blue, some orange or red. The only green one I found had the large silver / red decal on the seat tube, and I don't like it that much. Crying or Very sad
