Yesterday, I took a couple hour ride to pick these both up for about $165... I'm pretty psyched. But If you think I shouldn't be, honest opinions are welcome.

1) 1983 Criterium w/:
Super Champion?? wheelset w/ Campy hubs (rims original from the LBS where the guy bought it.)
Simplex Hinault F/R Der.
And an awesome replacement Trek saddle (it's cushy) Wink

2) And for my wife, what I'm guessing is a 1977 Gypsy Sport Mixte
Guessing 77 because of:
a. The badge on the front of the bike -- http://www.gitaneusa.com/images/catalog/1977_cover.jpg
b. Some of the components listed in the catalog -- http://www.gitaneusa.com/images/catalog/1977_pg2.jpg

Any different opinions on the model, let me know. I'm a little disheartened though, there's a "Made in Taiwan" sticker on the front of the bike underneath the front badge. Never read anything here that Gitane bikes were made made anywhere other than France or somewhere in Europe.

Anyone interested in that AWESOME headlamp, PM me... but don't everyone do it all at once! Laughing

The Gypsy is pretty solid, but will roll nicely once she's cleaned up, get's a new saddle and a tuneup.

Nice score. The Criterium has the same derailleurs as my '84 Sprint. I eventually switched the rear out for a Suntour Edge for a little crisper shifting but kept the original Simplex.

Thanks! I was searching online ads over that winter for something Gitane with a Reynolds frame, but slim pickings. Then these two appeared in two separate ads within 10 miles of each other. I couldn't believe it.

You should be psyched, tagman - I think that was a super deal!

That Criterium is especially sweet.
PS - Nothing against Suntour but for that bike I'd keep the Simplex.
