Hi, I have a '70's Tour de France and would like to put back the long gone original seat. Did this bike originally come with an Ideale seat? Model 80 or 90? Thanks for any help, Dan |

All of the early 70s Bike Boom TdFs that I saw came with the same cheap, painful plastic saddles that shipped with the lower end Gitane bikes. The only difference was that the TdFs had an alloy seat post.

I bought the bike from a shop in Los Altos and remember being disapointed that the seat was plastic and that there was no simplex seat post. I will probably keep the Brooks seat that I put on it. Thanks, Dan |

The alloy posts were just aluminum tubes that used that standard cross bolt seat clamp that always slipped or broke if you tightened them enough to where they didn't slip. Some bikes just had standard steel posts.

Mine came with a Brooks and a standard chrome steel seat post, but I did not buy it new. I can't remember what they were shipped with when we sold them. |
