Hello again, here some tales and pictures from Anjou Velo Vintage in
Saumur France from last weekend.
First, this event will definitely be the place to be in europe when it comes
to vintage cycling, beside the nowadays hopelessly overbooked l`eroica.
second, sorry, again i have made to less and to lousy photos, so its better you go to www.anjouvelovintage.fr and have a look there.
Saturday morning on the camping
crossing the bridge to have a first look on the market
River Loire
Exhibition Velos de legende
Maitre Jaques
Fignons tragic TT Bike
and Jan Ullrich`s TT Bike 2003(how could he sit on that?)
Velo Orange had a nice porte de bidon
Jerseys
now thats a trailer
en miniature
vendeur
parc ferme
Jaques Anquetil exhibition
no comment
my wifes first vintage bike
Cyles Reboul from Bordeaux 1943 even in France "Inconue"
bought on the market
me and my "Stuttgart Tweed Run" gear
wich i choose for saturday
Sunday 10am the start of the 101km
me and my bike
after the run i walked again one time over the market, and as i walked
by the Anquetil exhibiton, suddenly a french man run to me and tried to pull out my jersey , he was the exhibitor and collector, he dare me to shoot a pic on his stand and here it is
finally i am just overwhelmed, that weekend passed by like a dream
and quickly we sat in our car driving some 900km home, making plans for the next year.
Thanks, to all the friendly gorgeous people there.
Also Forum member KHUNSA who i identify by his orange Gitane so we rode most of the 101k together
thanks to Oliver who sold me that bidon Evian to complete my bike
and also thanks to my bike for give me a smooth and good ride
A.Dugast tubulares are great.
finally the bike, there was a handwritten card from the Gitane factory in
the seat tube on wich is written prestige so i call that bike
bye,Holger |

Hi Holger
Thanks for the pictures I love retro stuff. looks like you had a wonderful time, your bike and unifrom look superbe! well done!
I have often wondered if Eroica was getting too big, I would like to hear your opinion on it. There is another retro ride I know about Retro Ronde. http://www.crvv.be/en/museum/activities/retroronde. I want to do one of these rides but can only afford to do one. Witch one I can't decide. |

thank you for your kind words,
i dont think the l`eroica is too big because they had limited for safety reasons the number of participants so the problem is to get a number.
Cause when they open the online inscription its after the first two hours
outbooked or the server broke down.
-If you like an event under the "race" spirit theres nothing better to join the long 200k or 135k at the l`eroica to go to your own limit and feel like Gino Bartali.
i was there two times, once i made the 200k, and never again i felt so exhausted and also lucky, unforgettable!
-if you search something for the whole family, then anjou is the best
spirit of `randonneur`its all about fun and a very very good time, but
not that race feeling.
i know there are a lot of events and i allways want to go belgium and the
tour de trois, and join them all but sadly its all about time and money.
by the way, there are a lot more events in italy than the l`eroica go to
www.bicidepoca.it
hope i could help you
Holger

Hello Holger
I saw your beautifull Gitane at Saumur (and the nice Reboul too - my wife want the same ! ) . It is a Bernard Carré's frame ?

Two gitane and one helyett on the same line at the start of the Anjou Velo Vintage.
It was a very nice week end, I hope I can go back next year

Dear Friends,
I have dream, actually I have a plan to join Velo Anjou Vintage this year. But I have a problem. Transporting bicycle from finland is maybe too demanding. Is there any chance to rent a vintage race bike so that it is possible to join the race.
My plan is to fly from Nizza to Nantes and try to find my way to Saumur, also accomodation is still unclear.
Best Regards,
Mikko

Thanks for the great pics Holger!
What's even better than seeing old vintage bicycles that have been restored is seeing old vintage men riding them, feeling restored. The most painful thing is to see vintage bicycles retired as wall-art.
Cheers |
