Yesterday I bought my second Gitane. Just three weeks after the first one. A SPRINT 1837 from 1978. NOS! From the same lot as the first came from, but another seller this time. The bike appeared on Marktplaats (a Dutch auction site, allied to eBay) and the asking price was very reasonable, not to say 'extremely low'. 150 euro's for a 'brandnew' old bike. I add some pics.
In the meantime I discoverd my first Gitane probably isn't the SUPER SPRINT 1847 I thought it was. It has a full Reynolds 531 frame. The '78 catalogue shows three cable clamps at the upper tube of this model, but mine has the two welded ones. Like the NATION 1849. And it has the same specs as the last one. So probably they sprayed the frame in the 'wrong' colour. This bike will get back it's original racing appearance.
