I was adjusting the stoker seat of my Gitane Decouverte tandem to my daughters height, now that she's tall enough to fit on the lowest setting, when the head of the bolt broke off. I am not able to find a replacement in town or on line.

The picture of the parts shows (from left to right) the bolt w/o its head (lost the head), the "nut" that goes through the seat stem clamp and a dime for sizing. ;o)

There are two pictures of the stoker seat stem clamp. One with the "nut" out and the pulley for the back brake loose and one with the "nut" in place with the pulley in place.

The other picture is of the whole bike.

Would appriciate any help in getting my bike up and running! My daughter is anxious to train for the MS 150 this Fall. Very Happy

They're quite common and come in various lengths.

You may have to do a little grinding to get the proper length.

Thank you both, very much! That was very helpful.

Now that I have a part on "order", I'm curious if there is a special angle that I need to put the brake pulley.

Make sure that the cable is 90° to the brake cross over wire. See red line:

Thank you again for your earlier help. With the information I got from you, I was able to find a bolt on Bikeville's (Ralph's) site. I filled out the form twice, but never got a response.

I did not contact the folks in Paris. Just shy I guess. Is that where I need to go next? What do you suggest?

Didn't realize I was so ignorant. This is more complicated than I thought, or I'm making it more complicated than it really is.

Does it matter that the bolt is keyed rather than splined like the original? I noticed that my clamp is made to take the keyed version, but the slots on the clamp and the brake pulley connection don't match up. As a matter of fact they're a good 110 degrees off from each other.

Please excuse my ignorance and thank you for your patience and information.

Hi if you figure out what you need today (in the next 12 hours) I will pick it up in Paris. I am at the "Bicyclette" shop tomorrow and they have boxes of these pieces. So, the length in mm of bolt and if you want the notched or serrated end or both. The nut piece should be standard.... but, I believe that the notched version came with a regular hex nut and not an allen key fitting.

Chas knows.

Anyway I have to go to the shop tomorrow.
