I'm looking at a used gitane tandem. It says "touring" on the frame. The frame is yellowish-gold with 27" wheels ( or 700c). The rear wheel has a hub brake/cantilever brake and 5 gears. The rear handlebars aren't drop bars but are shaped like the 60s/70s style bikes--they are curved. The brakes are cantilever.
The bike is about $150. I'm thinking about this bike for riding with my kids so whoever is tired can hop on the back and ride with me. Can anyone tell me the approximate age of this tandem and if you think it's worth the money? Thanks.

Hi Steve, and welcome.
It's hard to guess the age without seeing a photo. If you don't have a photo to attatch, your best bet would be to have a look through the catalogues pages on this website. Look for the same style of stickers. That will fit it to a 5-10 year period. (try the 1970's first - my guess)
As far as value for money is concerned, it will depend on the condition. If it's all in good nik, functional, and decent tyres, it's well worth $150 in my opinion. But talk 'em down if you can........
Cheers. Wisey. |
