Welcome to the Forum.
Gitane used those MylarŪ foil decals from 1968 until 1974.
The frame is probably from the the early 60s. |

thank you verktyg for the information about the decals and the timeline
when gitane used them.
After doing some nights with research some weeks ago (in the net and tonton)
I dont think that the frame is from the 60s, i am sure that it is a 1950s frame
- the position of the pumpholder is definetely 50s - backside of the seattube
- the inside cable routing was used by helyett in the 50s
- the frame number of other helyetts seems that the first two numbers are
the production year |

You may be right. Those Simplex dropouts go way back
They are similar to these:
Simplex Competition
Simplex Tour de France
Here's a Heylett that was on UK eBay that's similar to your frame.

thank you chas,
for your answer and the link to the offered helyet - this can be a interesting
bike for a helyett timeline cause this professional model has this typical helyet fork from the 50s but the older lugs - not like the lugs that my one got which
looks like nervex pro but where may be a special production for or by helyet.
If its right that the first two numbers are the production year than we are near together.
Is it right that the simplex dropouts you linked were for quick release and there was a version either for wing nuts? - or were they used for both?
weight of the frame is 1910 gramm in size 57 center top - that seem to be a
good light and stiff frame - not to light - i have a 1950s Pro frame in size 55
thats weight 1650 gramm - i am not sure if this one is really stiff |

hello smiling,
its more a frameset, i get the stem, handlebar (both pivo) and the brakes
and levers - both lam super dural
it will be a lot of work - the frame needs a braze on for the shiftlever -
it is cuted away - and new colour and decals.
and then a little part searching in france - i will build it up as original as
possible - durax cranks with durax, franco suisse bottom bracket, simplex front and rear derailleur 1950, 51 ... |
