It seems upon initial work that the entire fork on my TdF is chrome..... Odd? Normal? confused.... I'm thinking I'll keep it all chrome. There is factory paint on the chrome so it appears that the entire fork was chromed and then painted white for the top two thirds..... |

That was normal back in the day.
When the fork crown was plated it was cheaper (less time consuming) to plate the whole fork than to mask off the mid section that was to be painted.
One problem though, they only polished the crown and exposed bottoms of the fork blades. Paint adhered better to the rough unpolished mid section.
Many forks look bad without paint because of the because of the rough area. |
