Hi guys, new on the forum.

As the title says I recently bought my first Gitane. Saw an add for it since I have a habit of browsing bicycles for sale without looking for anything particular to buy. The price was so low (80€, around 100 bucks) that I decided to get it.

Based on the catalogues I think it's an 80's vigorelli. It would be nice to know if I've got the model right and from what year it's from.

It needs a bit of work. At least new bar tape, new tires, new and new cables. Already had an extra saddle. Also considering a new paint job since it has a few bumps and cracks and getting it painted isn't that expensive anyway.

Here's some pictures:

I'm working on my balcony and it's a bit of a mess due to another bicycle project and some non-cycling projects Very Happy

Nice find. Good thing you explained about the mess because you're the only one I know that has multiple bike projects going while simultaneously working on other projects. Wink Ummm just don't look in my garage... where the cars don't fit...

I guess everything's subjective Very Happy

Is there a simple way to differentiate between Vigorelli, Club-T and Olympic? All of them are blue and have a chromed fork. I just guessed mine's a Vigorelli since the decals seem most similar.

Hi not a Vigorelli. The Vigorelli has squeezed down sections in the seat and down tube and oval sections in the rear stays. The Tubes were made by Camus and called Aero 7 with tear drop shaped sticker. Also, the Vigorelli was equiped with Shimano AX series pieces and the shifters are in a block together on top of the down tube. Dan

Hi Lauri,
If you ever find out what it is, I would be very interested. I have a very similar model - same frame (102 Aerotub); same cranks, gears, brakes, wheels and chromed front fork. Only difference is mine is silver/grey and it doesn't have any Gitane decals; the decals it does have just say "Velo France" but it looks original. I know it's not a top-of-the-range model but I knida like it and would be interested to know it's pedigree

Your bike looks like a Turbo 12 #2866 from the 1984 British Catalog.

It has pre-1983 decals so maybe it's a 1982 model. Your bike has the same Aerotub 102 frame, Nervar alloy cranks, wheels, Huret Eco derailleurs etc. The brakes on your bike are CLB vs. Weinmann listed in the 1984 spec sheet but... "SPECIFICATIONS SUBJECT TO CHANGE WITHOUT NOTICE"

Seems spot on, save for the decals and brakes.

Thanks a million, Chas!
