A newbie to this forum. I purchased a Gitane yesterday and after considerable time cleaning this 10.00 bike is like new. 58C c to c and Gitane blue in color. Chrome half way up front forks. Many stickers, and all are in great condition. Corsa service on the seat tube, interclub sticker, world with checkered flag on the down tube, and a custom sticker.
Center pull brakes with masac on the levers, Simplex derailer and shifters
Serial # 104899. An odd seat binder bolt in the center/back of the seat tube.
Any help to ID would be appreciated and any advice/opinion also appreciated. How old is this bike? I'm guessing 25 to 30 yrs.
It cleaned up like new...not a mark on it. |

Thanks for posting your question to the forum. The bicycle sounds like an early 1970's Gitane Interclub. Check the "catalogue" section of www.gitaneusa.com and you can see a picture of the interclub. The back page has all of the parts which came "stock", but in reality, there were many variations....
finding those in "like new" condition is pretty rare. The Interclub was the entry level racer, and a fine bike by any standard. Certainly a steal at $10.00.
You can post pictures to your messages, which always helps in identifying any bike! |
