Ok Don, please tell me that you bought, traded, swindled or at least stole that thing.

Is it unpainted, or is that some sort of coppery/gold paint?

Hairline cracks on the delta wing clamp?

What is the delta bar made from? Looks molded.

Is that a crack running around the base and then up the head tube, or is it just paint scratches?

For all those people who believe that integrated headsets are new..... Razz !

I still think they look better in blue......

yeah it seemed to be a gold, copper crome maybe at one time .the delta wing ,has the clamp-on under the wing instead of on top like the earlier ones. it almost felt as if the wing was early carbon.i tapped it with my finger and it sounded either a very very light alluminum or carbon. the wing sounded hollow . the bar ends are definately smaller than regular bars of that time period. the points at the end are rubber and just push into the ends.the frame tubes on this were smaller than my 81 tt bike.mine were reynolds 531 maybe these would be perhaps made of columbus?the top tube was more oval than round like my 81. the decals were not the originals. u could see were there were decal lines on the tubes. the back chain stays both had some kind of wolber decal on it .

also the chain stays were more round instead of areo like my 81 as were the forks. you could also make out decal lines on the fork blades. it does have a limited turning radius.the drops were campy.it had a regular seat post clamp instead of a screw in like the 81. as far as parts , nothing that i havent seen on ebay alot. it had black anadized campy sr cranks and bb , wolber profile 20 700c rear rim with campy record rear hub, wolber profile 18 650c front wheel with what looked to be a 80mm mavic hub.
advocet saddle. i appreciate the folks who took their time to show me this bike .they were very kind .

Could the delta's wing have been made of fiberglass?

Also, it appears that the paint oxidized or faded, except where it was either covered by a sticker or partially shaded or protected by grease (the bottom bracket area). Do you buy that one???

I reckon you're probably right sandman. If it was carbon, then they were way, way, way ahead of the game at the time, not to mention spending some mega $$$$. But any surfboard shop could have knocked up fibre glass for them. Just not as light is all.

Aparently, many of the lower end "carbon" frames on the market today are actually carbon & glass fibre composites. Buyer beware!

There must have been several generations of the bar itself. I have noticed the aluminium looking ones of 84, the white one in the "models" page on this site that seems to have ribbed airfoils on the top surface, flat leading edge vs raked leading edge, and this molded version. I have also noticed at least three different headset arrangements.

The fiberglass idea came to me from the 1984 catalogue. Read this page...under the first paragraph section...it talks about fiberglass in bicycle design.

FIR fibreglass wheels. Not sure what the frame was made from. From Winning Magazine (British edition) July 1989. You woulda thunk that fibreglass was out by then, but.........

Check out the poster I just obtained...cool thing is that it is the "700c" version of the bike (both wheels are the same size).
