Here is something interesting for sale on French Ebay. Keep in mind that Renault purchased Gitane in the 1970's. This appears to be a mid-1970's Gitane Tour de France, but with "Renault" decals. It has all the tell tale signs of a Gitane, including the really nice paint finish around the fork crown!

Easy now, that's the sign of hand workmanship (you know the little black oval stickers with the red hand that they used to put on the seat tubes).
I wonder if this may have been some kind of promo bike. You know, buy a Gitane, get a free Renault!

That is not as surprising as one might think. First; as stated, Renault had purchased Gitane in the mid-1970's.
Secondy l; I recall, in the French cycling press of the time that Renault was planning to commence building bicycles. If this scenario is correct, they apparently, built a few! Logically, who else would build these velos? However, Gitane was soon sold again, eventually to Cycle-Europe. So much for these velos!
