That's a really nice Gitane with the racks welded to the frame and those unique aluminium mudguards which are so collectible. The letter 'G' incorporated in to the rear rack is a nice touch.
This type of bicycle design was made for years by many manufacturers so this could be an old machine or relatively recent. My guess would be recent - mid '70s judging by the paint and transfers, but I could so easily be wrong. Any further ideas from anyone? The paint looks metallic to me. |

That is an earlier model. Most probably early 1960's, judging from the downtube decal. Also, note the different headbadge and painted lugs. Of course, this is all assuming that it is original.
I would love to have that bike. |

Even earlier, I'm not surprised. Thanks. It looks good for its age. I too would love that machine but the addition of panniers would be a must. |
