Renault/Elf/Cycles Gitane Jerseys are now available from Prendas Ciclismo in the UK, $67.14 USD including shipping to the US.

A few weeks back I slipped over to the DARK SIDE and bought one of these: Embarassed

http://www.prendas.co.uk/details.asp?ID=1737

I was surprised by the fast 3-4 day delivery to the States. The quality is very good. It's made in Italy by Santini out of a breathable stretch material with dye sublimated colours.

I have a 46" chest with a long torso. I ordered a size 4XL which is supposed to fit 46" - 48". It fits a little tight and slightly short. I ordered one of these Gitane jerseys in a 5XL so I should find out how it fits next week. If you have a robust physique you might want to consider ordering one size larger than the size chart recommends. European clothing tends to be on the small side.

Chas.

There was something not right about those jerseys...and I finally figured it out. The stripes aren't on the correct angle. Don't get me wrong: I don't have any problem with them, and they are nice looking, but it surprises me that someone went through all of the hassle of having them made, and then didn't angle the stripes right. Of course, the cut is different, which is why it appears to have "too much white" on it. Take a look:

The Replica:

Ah, ah, ah...

You'll have to wait 3 weeks for that.

Let's just say that...I now own a Trek bike and in 3 weeks I'll have a Gitane bike. Sort of. Thingy.

Of course you're right and the font used for "cycles gitane" is close to the original but not quite like it.

As far as stripes go, if you look at the jerseys from 1977 to 1985, I don't think the stripes are always on the exact same spot & angle.

I see this replica more as a tribute to the original more than a replica.

The sleeves would be off too...

I Received my Gitane jersey today from Prendas Ciclismo, 8 days from the UK to California, not bad.

The previous jersey that I bought from them last month arrived in 3-4 days. It was made in Italy by Santini. The Renault/Elf/Cycles Gitane jersey is made in Columbia by Safety. It's very well made but the material and finish isn't quite as nice as the Santini jersey.

The Santini Dark Side jersey is a size 4XL It fits a little tight across the chest and it's a little short. This new jersey is a 5XL and fits snug across the chest but it's nice an long to cover my torso. All in all, it's sufficient to give the posers a jolt out on the stroll.

I have no hesitation recommending these jerseys from Prendas Ciclismo.

Chas.

Ordered mine yesterday and had a little chat with Andy of Prendas.

He told me about the difficulties obtaining the copyrights..."La Vie Claire" is a good example because you have all the brands on the jersey then the design of the jersey itself which is based on a Mondrian painting...
