I found this under a freeway overpass in not-so-good condition, so I decided to take it home to have a project bike. I need help identifying the make and year.
To clean up any thoughts, this bike was obviously abandoned. The tires were shredded and there was enough rust to show that it had obviously been sitting out in the elements for some time. I don't believe it belonged to anyone. |

Decal series looks like those of my '74' Grand Sport DeLuxe. I've recently restored. Post the serial# in the thread listed for that and see what comes out of it.
You may see it on the main page under 'Models'.
Best to you,

This is a late 196? to 1973 Gitane Gran Sport model. Some Gran Sport bikes had nutted wheels, while the Gran Sport Deluxe had quick change hubs (some times).
They came equipped with:
Simplex Prestige or Huret Allvit derailleurs. Some of the late Bike Boom bikes even had Suntour derailleurs. They came with either stem shifters or down tube shifters.
Mafac Racer or Weinmann brakes while some of the later models even had Dia-Compe Weinmann copies.
Most of them had Normandy high flange quick release hubs but some had Normandy high flange or low flange nutted hubs. A few even came with various styles of Pelissier hubs and other off brands.
They had either Michelin or Hutchinson 27 x 1 1/4" tires or a wide variety of chrome plated steel rims.
