I started restoring my Gitane, vintage 1974 Grand Sport Deluxe, late last summer. I bought a used set of aluminum wheels, (finances prevented new at this time), new tires and needed to replace the gear shifters. Purchased all these parts in the fall 2007. The gear shifters however were designed for the narrow tube design. A bike shop near my house, old annd delapidated in apearance also carrying many classic bikes as well as new, came across the old style shifters much to my delight.
I've cleaned the bike, assembled afore mentioned parts, completed today, and took it for its first ride in this current condition. Sweet Very Happy
Some cosmetic needs but progress has been made. Guess I just had to share. To all who read, Tks. for taking the time. Will post a photo soon, and serial # to that listed thread.
