Hi All -
My Gitane Team "rehab" is nearing the finish line. I just got the frame back from the painter, but noticed that he neglected to re-attach - or even include the bottom bracket routing for the cables. When I looked at it prior to shipping it, it appeared to be a non-integral part of the frame that was attached by a small bolt perhaps?
Can anyone give me any feedback on this?

What year is your Gitane? If it is anything older than say 1978, it requires a clamp-on cable guide. Campagnolo made them, and they are readily available on Ebay.
But the key is to figure out what year your bike is.... |

As Stephan suggested it would help to know the year and model of your bike.
There are 2 common ways to route the derailleur cables, on top of the bottom bracket or below it.
Since you're calling it a "Team" bike then it could be from the 1980s. If so, the cables probably run under the bottom bracket. An easy way to tell is to look to see if there is a cable stop on the dropout end of the right chainstay. If you have one brazed onto the chainstay and it's on the underside of the tube then you need a cable guide that fits on the bottom of the bottom bracket shell. Gitane used plastic cable guides made by Vitus. They are hard to find. I would contact the painter and ask them to dig one up for you.
Scroll though this older message in the forum. There are pictures and info on these guides:

If this doesn't match your bike then you need one of the clamp on cable guides that route the cables on top of the bottom bracket. Gitane used a number of different styles made by Simplex, Huret and Campagnolo. We would need more info to help you.
