Here's a lovely Gitane which was apparently owned by Bernard Hinault. Lots of bold statements in the ad. but only one photo. The bike has no race tag but that may have been knocked off or was never on the machine.
It's still a super bike as an item in itself. Only for sale in France.

I don't know what it says (I don't speak French), but that isn't Hinault's bike.... |

We have bigger and better bridges for sale up here (than the Coronado).
Just call me and I'll set you up!

A little bit late in the game, but...
Seller says not only it is Hinault's bike, but the triathlon bars are LeMond's and even the bottle belonged to Jean-François Bernard !
That's a bit much, I'd say.
Anyway, I contacted the buyer and asked to confirm the authenticity of the bike and to come and discuss it with us. |

Do the French have a developed sense of sarcasm? I know that the Germans (in general) do not....but perhaps it is a joke? |

The man who posted this auction wanted to be taken seriously, apparently.
But he admits he doesn't know what he's talking about. He refers to his father in law who apparently knew Hinault because they lived in the same area.
At the same time he can't spell Yffignac correctly, says Hinault rode that very bike during "one of his last TDF" but we know that would be 1982, which is not exactly one of his last TDF, says the triathlete bars were "borrowed" from LeMond during one TDF...
I believe the guy inherited that and believed anything his father in law told him.
Or he's just a poor thief. |

Thanks for the updates Nicolas. It seemed like an interesting item by its description. From time to time there are interesting items worthy of further thought where the information offers little or way to much and lo and behold, they are the genuine articles.
I do remember that bike, Chas. What a find that was. I passed up an opportunity there. Blast!
Do let us know if you hear any more.
