Hi guys, I'm abie, and this is my first post on this forum.

I'm considering buying what looks to be a '83 or '84 silver Super Challenge. It's in excellent cosmetic shape, and seems to have most, if not all of the original components on it.

The seller wants $200 for it. Do you think this is a fair price? I am leaning towards buying it, as its a nice old bike in very decent shape. Also, the guy selling it is going to convert it to a fixie if it doesn't sell, which is something that I'd rather not see happen...

The Super Challenge model bike is a lower end model. The frame is made from "high tensile" steel with lugless construction. High tensile is a euphemism for gas pipe quality tubing. At 25 Lbs. it's probably not going to be a real smooth riding bike. Sorry but $200 seems like a lot for one of these bikes.

I have one...and converted it to a "city bike". They are nice enough for around time, but probably worth 1/2 of the $200 asking price. Nowadays, anything that is "old" and can be converted into a fixie is going for a lot of money.

What a bike is "worth" is completely subjective. But you could get a better quality bike for the money. However, if you are like me and just want "that" bike, then perhaps $200 isn't too much...
