...or new stripes. I don't know if this is a new idea but I tried it and it works GREAT! I've used these Pilot Metallic Markers for years to label plastic plant markers outside. I wondered if it would help touch up the Gold pinstripes on my TdF and it did. I tried it on another bike (see photo) without the detailing (the silver diamond was factory color) and it went on like a charm.

The good thing is that if you mess up you can wipe it off with WD-40, or the like, and start over. Once dry it won't rub off but you can still remove it with the solvent.

The pen point pumps to get the ink flowing and it follows the lug/tube seam easily. You can even stop and start again.

They come in Gold and Silver and it is much more metallic looking than in the photos. If you decide to try it, get the EXTRA FINE POINT. They are available at most Office Supply and Hobby stores for about $2.50 each.

I too have used these pens to line bikes and have found them to be excellent and very easy to use. I just wish more colours were available.

Jay, thanks for the great tip, but I wish you had posted it yesterday. I'm repainting my '72 TDF and I was just re-lining the lugs yesterday, the old fashioned way - with the smallest tipped camel's hair brush I could find and some model-car gold paint. Man, I must be taking in too much caffeine. Yuck, what a butchered job.

Shouldn't a glass of wine or two be used to lubricate the painter first? The stripes on my TdF look like the painter was, um, distracted during the job. Smile

That's what is so good about the Pens. There's no "Do not Stripe while impaired" warning. If you find it a little wobbly the next morning, you can wipe it off with WD-40 and start again.

Two other points in the fine print: These are rattle pens, you shake well until the ball bearing rattles to mix the ink and, store flat/horizontal after use(meaning, the Pen not the Painter).
