It's older than the date the seller suggests - 1986. It looks like a '70s model. http://www.troc-velo.com/velos-route-course-gitane-1-1-159742.htm There's scant information in the ad. Any ideas on the model, date, etc? My guess is that this is a 1976 TdF with a Stronglight 105bis crankset (drilled chainrings), Huret Success derailleurs and Mafac 2000 brakes. The frame is probably Reynolds 532 throughout rather than just the 3 main tubes as was the case with the 1974 and 1975 TdFs. It could also be one of the European only models. USA Models of this bike came with Stronglight 93. I wish there was a better photo. A FINE bike with top components from the period. At 500 Euros a tad pricey in my opinion. It looks like it has an Ideale 2000 saddle and the crankset is probably a Stronglight 93 with 105bis drilled out chainrings. It would be interesting just to see better photos though. It must look great with a Drilled Stronglight 93. Hummmm...wonder if I can find some drilled rings for mine. I've replaced Tires and am searching for an Original down tube decal. I can find NO evidence of it ever having one for some reason. I also have an as equipped Zefal Competition pump. I've been able to track its Heritage to Des Moines, Iowa where it was likely purchased in the Fall of 1976. Components are all original, condition is Excellent. The person I bought it from was going to part it out on Ebay. He got it from the original owners Son (I missed getting it from him by a few dollars). The Son provided me with the Bikes history. I'm sure it looks superb next to your wonderful '73. Knowing the history always adds to the machine. You did very well. As well as the components, is the paint original? Your machine does look very similar to the French one, thank you for sharing. If the machine was in the UK I would be tempted but I posted it purely as an item of interest to the forum. I'll PM you on these. As far as decals go, maybe try getting a set from Cyclomondo on eBay. That way you'll have some spares. I'm VERY pleased with it. Also of interest, this likely has one of the earliest manufactured Huret 'Success' rear derailleurs with a date code of Nov. 1975. My research on this indicates that Huret introduced them in the Fall of '75. Chas., I have a set of Tim's decals for my Interclub project. His down tube decal is slightly off from the original. My intent is to find an original for this particular Bike. I missed out on the one on Ebay (from France) a while back to a buyer in Japan. Jay _________________ Dance like nobody is watching.
