Last year I bought a reasonably priced used bike. I didn`t know the brand "Gitane", but the bike looked good and was in a good condition. I "pimped" the bike, including painting frame and doing the service of parts.
I`m very glad that i found that site, I found here a lot informations about Gitane and... I`m proud, that I have a Gitane Smile
After watching catalogues on this site, I guess, that my bike is about 35 years old (had the same stickers like Gitanes produced in 70`).
I found some similar Gitane frames, but i could't find the same.

Here are photos of my Gitane:

I guess that derauliers and brakes are not original, due to the fact this parts are shimano.

Fork : Nervor
Saddle : Selle san marco regal girardengo
Crankarms : Stronglight (alu)
Rear wheel: Hub Shimano stx, rim rigida excel 7 (I think that not original)
Front wheel is unknown
Pedals ale plastic Union (I think that non-original to)

I regret I had`nt done any photos before I prepared frame to painting Sad Hopefully I remember the stickers.
The colour was blue, like that http://www.gitaneusa.com/images/catalog/1974_cover.jpg

The fork was "half-painted" too, but without that colourful strip. The frame was whole blue.

Miro,
Was there any Chrome on the rear drop outs before it was painted?

Judging from the lugs, seat stay tops and rear dropouts it's probably a >1975 Tour de France. The forks would have been 1/2 chrome plated with a chrome fork crown. The rear stays may or may not have been chromed.

BTW, the cost of chrome skyrocketed in the mid 70s which resulted in far less chrome plating being used on bikes of that era (resulting in the "Italian" look).

Thanks a lot for replies.
No, there was`nt any chrome on the frame, only the down of the fork was chrome plated.
Another photos of decals

I forgot to write, there was`nt any sticker giving information about the steel used to build that frame (never sticked or removed?)

The BB numbers:

1 2096
288*

I`m not sure what is next to the last 8, it`s probably a scratch, but maybe it`s 1

Michal,

Dzień dobry

The Huret "honeycomb" rear dropouts were never very popular. It appears that Gitane only used them on Interclub and Tour de France models imported into the US in 1974, 1975 and 1976.

The long point Bocama lugs with the V cutouts would have been used on maybe some 1975 and on 1976 Tour de France models. The 1974-76 Tour de France frames only had the 3 main tubes made of butted Reynolds 531 tubing. The forks and stays were made from some other kind of tubing.

As I suggested before your frame is probably a 1975 or 1976 Tour de France but since it's a European frame it could be different.

Z poważaniem

Chas.
