A really nice 85-86 Gitane Record just sold on eBay. I'd never seen this model before. It looked so good that I had to throw some money at. I was out bid by a few dollars.
I hope the high bidder (there are no "winners" in an auction) doesn't part it out.

Oh well, I needed another bike like i needed a .....
Chas.
BTW, there's an early 60cm Tour de France currently listed on eBay. The seller has it as a 58cm C to C but by Gitanes standards in the 70s it was a 60cm C to T. Too big for me |

Nice bike. I like the color.
BTW for me:
I bit the bullet (and may need a large doghouse) and bought the Tour De France - either 84 or 85 - that was for sale in the Seattle area. Owner is a bike mechanic and had converted it to a fixed speed. He's converting it back to the original components -except that he's upgraded to Simplex shifters - and I'll pick it up on Friday.
I'll post photos when I get the bike. |

Great!
If you're lucky they'll be the Simplex Retrofriction shifters which are DEFINITELY an upgrade. These shift levers were used by many pros even on all Campy or all Shimano bikes. Even Lance used the left side for his front derailleur on many of his bikes with a "brifter" brake lever for the rear derailleur.
As I mentioned before be prepared to replace the derailleurs if they are the Ofmega Mistral models made of plastic. They looked sexy but the plastic deteriorated badly (they were produced in black plus several pastel colors.
