Too expensive but an early example that appears to be in good condition.

That's almost exactly like my first Gitane except mine was a 60cm (23 1/2") frame and had Weinmann brakes. I only paid ~$80 for it. Very Happy

That's a lot of money for a Gran Sport! Rolling Eyes

Were you taller back then? I seem to recall you riding a smaller frame size Wink

Amazing Jay. Another machine in amazing condition. You have a keen eye, thanks for posting.

I don't doubt the machine will go for a high figure considering the condition but an offer is always worth a go. It's amazing how hard it is to find any machines at a reasonable price and yet there are still machines in this glorious condition which keep us all looking.

Tim,
I think the Seller is VERY aggressive in his pricing. Even with what appears to be very good condition, I might suggest $65-$120 is fair value for this model.
Recent offerings and sales on USA eBay for TdF's have not even come close to his asking price for this bike.

"aggressive pricing" is one way to put it. $600 for a gran sport? Nuts!

Jay,

I agree, the asking price is very high.

No, my legs were longer then... Laughing

When I walked into the bike store they had 50-100 new Gitanes all around the showroom floor. I looked over and said "I want that one.

It had a 60cm (23 1/2") frame. They only had a few orange bikes and none in my size. It was a little too big for me but I quickly learned to dismount without "singing soprano"! Shocked

A 55cm - 56cm frame is my ideal size but I can ride a 54cm to 58cm frame.

Gitane Gran Sport bikes came in 50cm, 54cm, 57cm, 60cm, 62cm and 64cm measured from the center of the bottom bracket to the top of the seat tube (or top tube). For some reason there weren't many 57cm Gitane Gran Sports available at the time. Lots of 54cm and 60cm bikes though.

I rode the big beast for about 9 months and then switched to a smaller bike.

Chas.
