The answer in pictures :
The Fignon & Hinault shots are from the february issue of "vélo magazine" with a great interview of the badger...on the bike.
He tells a few great stories, one being about his fall in the 1985 tour de france : apparently, he blamed Phil Anderson for the fall and they got into argument about the fact that...Bernard had lost a 200€ pair of ray-ban shades during the incident ! |

Nice current shots, Nicolas. Thanks. The Fignon shot is puzzling me. Even though the face is clearly Laurent's the body just looks odd. His hands are way too large. Perhaps the shot has been squashed or they used a wide angled lens too close. Wouldn't it be great to go out for a run with these three guys? Can we imagine that?
The Lemond shot, that looks to be from the ProCyling interview in the January special edition when Greg was editor. |

The bibs Fignon is wearing are kind of a play on the 1988 Systeme U shorts. I agree that the picture of Fignon looks distorted. And I also agree that Hinault probably can still kick the crap out of anyone - on or off the bike, that guy is downright intimidating. |

You're right, that Greg shot is from pro-cycling (thanks Don !).
Actually, i kind of like Fignon's gear, it looks like an hommage to his 80's outfits...
Yeah, hinault looks great on that picture. In the same interview, he talks about an annual race between vintage riders and actual riders and...the reason he's back on the saddle is that he got into a fight with Bernaudeau and...Christophe Moreau and he's just preparing for the next one to get his revenge...
My guess is : out of that 3 guys, Hinault would win the mountain stage , Greg would win the flat stage and Fignon would win...the dinner stage ! |

Who ARE those guys?
Lemond is on the left and Fignon the right side of the picture. Is that Cyril Guimard next to Lemond? Who are the other two geezers?
Thanks for the B-Day greetings.
Chas - old and in the way. (I can still get off the front and slow down the pack) |

Nicolas,
Thanks for the kind words. Here's how I got my legs:
This is the street that I grew up on in Pittsburgh, PA. These are Google Map pictures so excuse the poor quality.
I used to ride up and down this street on a single speed coaster brake bike and later a 3 speed "English Racer" bike. I did more pushing than riding up the hill.
When I lived there most of the street was paved with cobblestones instead of the modern pavement in the pictures above.
Chas. |
